What would you do if someone told you that you would die if you went into work today? Would you laugh in their face, call them crazy, take the day off? What would say if that someone just so happened to be Spiderman 2099 talking to you from the future? That’s the premises behind Spider-Man: Edge of Time newest game from Activision and Beenox Studios.

Story:

An evil scientist from the year 2099 travels back in time to establish Alchemax; presumably in the hopes of taking over the world. Because of the time traveling Peter Parker’s (Amazing Spider-Man) timeline has been altered; Peter now works as a scientist at Alchemax the same place that Miguel O’Hara (Spiderman 2099) works in the future. Hardcore Spider-Man fans may scoff at the game’s premise with its time traveling universe merging storyline. They can rest a little easier knowing the story is written by Peter David the creator of Spider-Man 2099.

Gameplay:

Gameplay in Edge of Time will find players taking on the rolls of both Amazing Spiderman and Spiderman 2099 as they travel through the Alchemax building trying to prevent Amazing Spiderman’s death. The entry game will take place inside Alchemax mega building which features a diverse set of locations including a botanical garden. Each character will have their own set of special moves that will change during the course of the game. We were shown two different special moves during our gameplay demo; the first was Amazing Spider-Man’s evasion move which allowed his to quickly move out of the way of enemies while Spider-Man 2099 was able to create a Decoy that will attract enemies.
During the course of the game players will be jumping back and forth between the two Spider-Men depending on the needs of the story. During our demo we were shown an example of this, Spider-Man 2099 had encounter a massive robot that his was unable to defeat on his own, the gameplay then jumped to Amazing Spider-Man who needed to destroy the prototype robot to save Spider-Man 2099. When the Spider-Men need to talk with each other during the course of the game they will pop up in a picture-in-picture style window in the lower corner of the screen. Both timelines are running in parallel so when you are not controlling one of the Spider-Men he is still traveling through the Alchemax building.
